As part of the Presidents Award requirement, the University of Eldoret Unit Gold participants took part in the Residential Project at Kaptere Primary School in Elgeyo Marakwet County, while the Silver and Bronze participants participated in the adventurous journey in Kerio Valley region for 5 days. 49 students from the Schools of Agriculture & Biotechnology, Business, Economics & Management Sciences, Education, Engineering and Science took part in the exercise which sponsored by the University of Eldoret Student Welfare and under their patron / award leader Dr. Emily J.
Recently appointed University Council members were treated to a comprehensive tour of both the Main Campus and the Eldoret Town Campus, led by Vice-Chancellor Prof. Thomas Cheruiyot. This tour served as part of their induction program, offering them a firsthand look at the operational facets of the University. The itinerary included visits to various key facilities such as the new Site, the Amphitheater (currently under construction), the tree nursery, the University Farm, the Fish Hatchery, and the Outreach center.
The University of Eldoret, Outreach Centre in collaboration with CORTEVA Agro Science in implementing a project dubbed CORTEVA-OISC project held its inaugural meeting on Wednesday, 6th March 2024. The project objective is to set up ten (10) demonstration plots within Uasin Gishu County to aid in practical training of farmers in minimum tillage and good crop husbandry.
The University of Eldoret, Outreach and International Students’ Centre (OISC) in collaboration with the Uasin Gishu County Government, Department of Agriculture organized for a one-day farmers’ training on coffee farming on Wednesday, 28th February 2024. The training was organized following requests from the Ward Agricultural Officer (WAO), Lucky Self-Help Group and Ambassadors Disabled Farmers Group. A total of sixty-one (61) participants attended the training. This included Ainabkoi Sub County Agricultural Officer, four (4) staff members and fifty-six (56) farmers.
In order to meet our Vision and Mission as we work towards transforming ourselves to become an International Center of excellence, the University was well represented by the Director Research and Innovation Prof. Lizzy A. Mwamburi during the 3rd Edition of the East Africa Community regional STI Conference which was held between 6th-8th March 2024 at the Sarova Panafric Hotel, Nairobi, Kenya. The STI Conference themed: ‘Accelerating Development and Diffusion of STI Solutions for a Resilient East Africa’ was opened by Prof.
Colleagues and students from the Department of Animal Science and Management celebrated the retirement of Prof. George Oduho Oliech, the gentleman from Kadenge Village in Siaya County, having served in the department since 2006.
Prof. Julius Onyango Ochuodho is a Professor of Agriculture (Seed Science) at the University of Eldoret, a lecturer in Plant Pathology and Seed Science & Technology. He is an academician, researcher, innovation incubation specialist, and a champion in resource mobilization.
He holds Doctor of Philosophy in Plant Science (University of KwaZulu Natal, South Africa), Master of Science in Plant Pathology (University of Nairobi), Postgraduate Diploma in Seed Pathology (DGISP, Copenhagen, Denmark) and a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture (University of Nairobi).
Prof. Caleb Otieno Othieno retired from active service on the 18th of December, 2023. Colleagues and students gathered at the Outreach & International Students Centre of Eldoret to celebrate him and showered him with tributes on his industrious career as well as congratulatory and wishes of goodwill on his retirement.
