The Eldoret Agricultural Society of Kenya (ASK) National Show

The University team participated in the Agricultural Show to share experiences, research findings and innovations with other stakeholders. The 2024 Show theme was Promoting Climate Smart Agriculture and Trade Initiatives for Economic Growth.

The ASK show was officially opened by the Cabinet Secretary for Agriculture and Livestock Development, Hon. Mithuka Linturi on behalf of H.E. President William Ruto. In his speech, he said the trade fair stands as a beacon of innovation and progress in the agricultural sector and a crucial platform for the exchange and dissemination of cutting-edge agricultural technologies geared towards increased productivity in the agricultural sector. The University is geared towards this call and seen in our wins. Prof. Cheruiyot received our trophies from the Cabinet Secretary.

During the show, we were honored to have hosted Hon. Jonathan Bii, the Governor of Uasin Gishu County and the Kisii University Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Nathan Ogechi.

The exhibits that were showcased at the agricultural show were aligned to the theme and included;

  • Climate-smart indigenous vegetable solar drier
  • Climate-smart poultry feed utilizing locally available materials
  • Climate-smart crop varieties - Irish potato varieties of Eldo Amani and Eldo Fanaka
  • Climate-smart rapid multiplication of pyrethrum seedlings
  • Food products developed from climate-smart crops with high fibre and nutrition:
    1. Multi-nutrient flours targeting school children's nutrition
    2. Sorghum biscuits, cookies and cakes
  • Preservation techniques for tomatoes
  • Climate-smart organic fertilizer (pelleted and fortified agroforestry-based organic fertilizer
  • Climate-smart Oasis vegetable gardening
  • Climate-smart jiko utilizing sugar bagasse briquettes
  • Umbrella from recycled plastic waste
  • Assorted aesthetic hotel products from recycled plastic & agricultural packaging materials
  • Assorted products from recycled timber waste
  • Climate-smart water purification system using moringa seeds as a coagulant and antibacterial
  • Climate-smart aquaculture
  • The animal parade with 4 lactating cows, 2 heifers and 1 young heifers

The innovations and research findings led the University to scoop the below awards that we are so proud of achieving,

  1. First Position The Best Stand that Interprets the current Show Theme (Education and/or Research)
  2. First Position The Best University Stand
  3. Second Position The Best Stand in Youth Activities, Empowerment and Capacity Building
  4. Second Position The Best Stand in Research and Development (Educational)
