The 9th International Interdisciplinary Conference (9IIC-2024)

In order to meet our Vision and Mission, the University usually hold bi-annual International Interdisciplinary Conference in order to promote the discovery, invention, application and dissemination of new knowledge through research and innovation. In this financial year, the University under the Directorate of Research and Innovation has held two conferences for the different schools namely the 8IIC-2023 Conference and the 9IIC-2024 Conference.

This 9IIC-2024 Conference themed ‘Innovation for a Sustainable Future: Unlocking Scientific Technologies in Science, Agriculture, Environment and Engineering’ was organized by the Directorate in Conjunction with the School of Engineering, School of Science, School of Agriculture and Biotechnology and School of Environmental Studies and Natural Resource Management on 9-10 May, 2024. The conference brought together scholars, researchers and intellectual minds, and a total of over 55 Abstracts were received and presented during the conference.

The Conference was officially opened by the Vice-Chancellor Prof. Thomas Cheruiyot who reiterated the importance of research to universities and indicated that University of Eldoret is always committed towards advancing the needed solutions to problem affecting the society. He called upon the researchers to be aware of the changing trends in research and innovation and urged them to be creative and embark on a voyage of discovery to transform our societies. He called upon researchers to move from research to innovation and commercialization to meet the frontier of third generation universities. He finalized by urging the presenters to ensure that their presentations are published to inform policy makers.

The Conference saw presentation from Keynote speaker Prof. Richard O. Oduor and Dr. Paul Mirej who delve deeper into Communication Research for Food Security and From Idea to Funding: Developing a Winning Grant Concept respectively
On day two, the conference further saw presenters presenting their abstracts in a hybrid manner, before culminating in a tree planting exercise in honouring the lives lost during the recent National floods.
