The Department of Crop and Soil Sciences & Outreach Centre at the University of Eldoret has opened applications for an International Field Course themed "Integrated Project in Agro- and Ecosystems Engineering."
Hosted by the University of Eldoret in partnership with KU Leuven (Belgium), the course will run from November 1–14, 2026, and is funded under two VLIR-UOS projects: ADCLIM (Adapting to Climate-Resilient Farming Systems in Western Kenya) and FARMRECORD4SD (Strengthening Record Keeping for Sustainable and Resilient Smallholder Farming Systems in Western Kenya).
The program combines pre-training workshops at UoE with a two-week field course — one week of fieldwork followed by a week of report writing and presentations. Multicultural, multidisciplinary student teams of seven will assess how local agroecosystems and farming practices align with the 13 principles of Agroecology, focusing on climate resilience in Bungoma, Kakamega, and Vihiga Counties. Teams will also identify key constraints to sustainable rural development in these areas.
At the end of the course, students will present their findings through a summarized report and a graded poster presentation, guided throughout by a multidisciplinary team of resource persons from both universities.
Who can apply
The course is open to full-time MSc students across all Schools and Departments at UoE, subject to the following criteria:
- Must be currently registered in a full-time MSc programme
- Must submit a signed commitment letter to attend all pre-training workshops and the full two-week field course
- Must submit an interest letter signed by both the Head of Department and the Dean
- Must not have participated in a previous edition of the course
