University of Eldoret Enactus Team Emerged Winners in The Bic Education Challenge

The BIC Foundation holds an annual competition for Educational institutions with Enactus Teams. The challenge seeks to identify and fund the best innovative projects that provides a solution for School dropouts, Unequal opportunities, Access to education for girls & women and Environmental consciousness issues.

The challenge for the year 2020/2021 was announced in November 2020. Sixteen projects including the Inua Jamii project by Enactus University of Eldoret were submitted for review by a panel of experts. After the assessment of the projects, five Universities’ teams were shortlisted to participate in a physical competition on 18th March 2021 at the Bic East Africa headquarters.

The shortlisted teams were Enactus University of Eldoret, Moi University, Pwani University, Taita Taveta University and Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University of Science and Technology (JOOUST). The competition sought to identify the project that best solves the Education challenges in an entrepreneurial manner. All the projects participating in the competition were very creative and of great impact to the communities.

The ENACTUS University of Eldoret team emerged winners with the project Inua Jamii and was awarded USD.1,000.00. The fund is to enable the team carry out their project of keeping a girl in school and to solve other attendant Educational Challenges. The team from UoE was prepared and represented by Esther Ruhi (FO/009/17) Sam Okemwa (CSE/030/16) and Ivy Ndadema (ECS/021/18) under the guidance of their faculty advisors CPA. Francis Ikapel and Prof. Robert Otuya.

The team also underwent a mentorship program and will also continue receiving monthly follow-ups from BIC. The First runners up were JOOUST’S Trash to Treasure project which was awarded USD.600.00 and the Second Runners up was Moi University’s Kama sio sisi basi nani, which was awarded USD.400.00.
