Prof. Thomas Kimeli Cheruiyot takes over as University Vice-Chancellor

The University of Eldoret opened a new chapter in its calendar of events when the University Council, Management, and Senate welcomed the new Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Thomas Kimeli Cheruiyot, on Friday 1st September, 2023.

Prof. Cheruiyot who takes over the reign from Prof. Wilson K. Ng’etich who has been acting as the Vice-Chancellor from 9th June 2023 to date, will be the Second Vice-Chancellor in the History of the University.

The new Vice-Chancellor comes into office with vast of leadership and academic prowess, having served in various leadership positions before his appointment as the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Eldoret. He also brings on broad a wealth of management and academic experience achieved as a Professor of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), sustainability, and Strategy at Moi University.

He holds a Doctor of Philosophy in Strategic Management (Moi University-Kenya, 2010); a Master of Management Sciences (Wageningen University-Netherlands, 1999), and a Bachelor in Agribusiness Management (Egerton University-Kenya, 1995).

He has demonstrable experience in transformative and strategic leadership having served substantively with measurable results in the positions of Director, at the Centre for Strategic Leadership Development at Moi University; acting Principal at Bomet University College; acting Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Finance; Dean, School of Business and Economics and Head of Department, Accounting and Finance all at Moi University.

In his maiden interaction with the University Council, he was duly congratulated by the Chairman of the Council, Dr. Ismail Buro Hassan, who on behalf of the Council, University Management Board, and Senate applauded Prof. Cheruiyot on his appointment as the Second Vice-Chancellor of the University of Eldoret and wished him success as he assumes office to execute his duties and responsibilities as Vice-Chancellor.

Later during his open and interactive session with the Senate Members, Prof. Cheruiyot encouraged the members to offer excellent experience to the students who are our main stakeholders. He promised to operate on an ‘open door policy’ and to work together as colleagues sharing experiences for the benefit of the institution as a whole.
