The University of Eldoret has been selected as one of only 11 universities in Kenya to join Cohort 3 of the prestigious Institutional Commercialization Support Program (ICSP), spearheaded by the Kenya National Innovation Agency (KeNIA) in collaboration with strategic partners. The ICSP is designed to strengthen the capacity of universities and research institutions in translating research outputs into commercially viable products and services. Through structured training, policy development, and mentorship, the program equips institutions with the tools needed to foster sustainable innovation ecosystems. As part of this initiative, the University of Eldoret will benefit from:
- Structured training for institutional leadership on commercialization and entrepreneurial leadership.
- Development of commercialization strategies and policies aligned with global best practices.
- Capacity building for technology transfer officers in intellectual property management, licensing, and industry engagement.
- Mentorship and technical guidance in creating sustainable innovation and entrepreneurship ecosystems.
- Enhanced collaboration with industry partners to unlock new revenue streams from research outputs.
The program officially kicked off with a high-level engagement meeting between selected Vice-Chancellors and the Principal Secretary for the State Department for Science, Research and Innovation, followed by an induction session held from 4–5 August 2025 at the Serena Hotel, Nairobi. The next phase will see our Vice Chancellor, Prof. Thomas Cheruiyot attend the Commercialization and Entrepreneurial Institutional Leaders’ Summit in Mombasa from 11–12 September 2025.
Training and capacity-building sessions will also take place for:
- Deputy Vice-Chancellors (Research and Innovation) under the Entrepreneurial Leadership Training Program from 20–24 August 2025.
- Selected faculty members working in innovation and technology transfer offices in the participating universities.
This selection affirms the University’s strategic commitment to integrating entrepreneurship, technology transfer, and commercialization within its core functions. University of Eldoret’s participation will accelerate reforms in curriculum development, research translation, industry engagement, and incubation support, all while ensuring equity and social inclusion remain central pillars.
