Eldoret, Kenya – July, 2026 – The University of Eldoret (UoE) is proud to announce its successful participation in the prestigious Erasmus+ International Cooperation Summer Week, hosted by the University of Life Sciences “King Mihai I” from Timișoara in Romania, from 20^th to 24^th July, 2026.

This landmark event brought together academic and administrative staff from partner institutions across the globe to foster collaboration, share best practices, and strengthen the internationalization of higher education. A distinguished delegation from the University of Eldoret, comprising both staff and students, represented the university with distinction, showcasing the institution's commitment to global academic excellence.

A Delegation of Excellence

The University of Eldoret was represented by a multi-disciplinary team, including:

• Administrative Staff: Dr. Hoseah Kiplagat, Ag. Registrar Academic and Dr. Joan Jelimo, Ag. Deputy Registrar Administration.
• Academic Staff: Prof. Nicholas Rop, Dean School of Agriculture and Dr. Kipkorir Kiptoo, Erasmus+ Coordinator.
• Postgraduate Students: Nancy Okademy, PhD student (School of Environmental Sciences and Natural Resource Management); Linda Cheluget, MSc student (School of Agriculture and Biotechnology), who engaged in collaborative research workshops, presenting their work to an international audience.
• Undergraduate Students: Josphine Rono and Bradley Tanui, students from the School of Health Sciences and Wellness for exposure.

A Week of Immersive Learning and Collaboration

The summer week was meticulously designed to facilitate a dynamic exchange of ideas. The program featured a blend of academic sessions, cultural events, and strategic planning meetings.

Key highlights of the week included:

• Academic Symposia: Staff and students participated in joint symposia focusing on biodiversity, conserving the environment, and the sustenance of our future. Discussions also centered on internationalization, networking, and AI in HEIs in the current era. Our delegates presented cutting-edge research on agro-ecology in the Rift Valley and community-based conservation efforts in Kenya.
• Research Incubation Workshops: Collaborative workshops were held to develop joint research proposals. Teams from Kenya, Romania, and other EU nations worked together to draft concepts for funding bids, focusing on areas like food security, renewable energy, and digital education.
• Administrative Best Practices Exchange: The administrative staff engaged in fruitful discussions on student mobility processes, credit transfer systems (ECTS), and digital campus management, gleaning insights from the well-established European systems to improve services back at University of Eldoret.
• Cultural Immersion: Beyond the lecture halls, the delegation experienced the rich history and culture of Romania, including visits to Timișoara's Freedom Square, Old Town, and museums, alongside networking dinners that fostered deep personal and professional bonds.

Strengthening the UoE-Romania Partnership

A significant outcome of the week was the deepening of the partnership between the University of Eldoret and the University of Life Sciences “King Mihai I” in Romania.

The Erasmus+ International Cooperation Summer Week has set the stage for a vibrant future of collaboration. The University of Eldoret plans to build on the momentum by:

1. Increasing Staff and Student Mobility: Preparing for incoming and outgoing exchanges for the 2026/2027 academic year.
2. Launching Joint Degree Programs: Exploring the possibility of dual-degree options in key disciplines.
3. Hosting Future Events: Expressing interest in hosting a future edition of the summer school in Eldoret to showcase Kenyan research and culture to the world.
