
University of Eldoret (UoE) conducted a sensitization workshop for the University’s top leadership on three ISO Standards. This workshop was held on 21st and 22nd July, 2025 at Sawela Lodge in Naivasha. The purpose of this workshop was to familiarize members of the University Council and the University Management Board (UMB) with the contents and requirements of the ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management System, the ISO 27001:2013 Information Security Management System (ISMS) and the ISO 21001:2018 Educational Organization Management System (EOMS). Currently, the University is certified to the ISO 9001:2015 QMS Standard and has made progress towards certification to the ISO 27001:2022 ISMS Standard.
This workshop was officially opened by the Chairman of the University Council, Dr. Buro Hassan and was attended by members of the Council and UMB. In his opening remarks, the Chairman affirmed the Council’s commitment to ensuring that the University attains global standards in service provision as envisioned in the University’s Vision, ’To be a premier university nurturing global leaders and innovators for sustainability’. He emphasized the need to embrace strategies that will lead to increased student enrollment to meet the capacity of the University through the adoption of approaches such as: collaborations, partnerships, innovations, investment in human resources and technology. The Vice-Chancellor in his introductory remarks expressed gratitude to the Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS) for the continued partnership with UoE in training staff and certification to ISO 9001:2015 since 2018. He hinted at the intention of the University to transit to the Educational Organization Management System (EOMS).
During the 2-day sensitization workshop, the facilitators from KEBS took the participants through the following key areas of the ISO Standards:
- The key principles of the ISO 9001:2015 QMS
- Key components of the ISO 27001:2022 ISMS
- Key features of the ISO 21001:2018 EOMS
- The benefits of implementing each of the three Standards
- A comparison of the three Standards
- The roadmap to implementing the ISO 21001:2018 EOMS
This sensitization workshop was conducted successfully and attained the intended goal. In his closing remarks, the Acting Council Chair, Hon. David Koech appreciated KEBS facilitators for the excellent presentations and reaffirmed Council’s commitment to support the implementation of these standards.
