The University of Eldoret through the Planning, Research and Extension Division (Directorate of Research & Innovation) is pleased to announce the 2018/2019 call for proposals for the Annual Research Grants (ARG). This is the Fourth call for internal proposals since the University was chartered. The fund is meant to support adaptive research addressing the BIG FOUR AGENDA on Affordable Housing, Universal Health for all, Manufacturing and, Food Security and Nutrition
The developed proposals should be inter-disciplinary, inter-school and addressing a clearly stated need in the following Four thematic areas:
- Food security and nutrition,
- Universal health,
- Affordable Housing
This call aims at funding 4 Research and Innovative projects to the tune of Kshs. 1, 000,000 per project in the following categories:
- 2 Senior Research Grants – staff with more than 3 years of service
- 2 Innovation Research Grants – any member of staff with innovative/new ideas, or new inventions geared towards solving a societal challenge for improvement of life.
Proposals should be developed according to the supplied application forms. The application document should clearly outline the research expertise of each collaborator and their role and contribution in the team. Involvement of students and the local communities in project activities is an added advantage. However, the project will only support their research activities and not fees nor stipend.
The application form should not exceed 10 pages. 2-3 page collaborators’ resumes and signature page will be appendices. The application should be accompanied by a letter of support from the Deans of Schools (Academic units) or Registrar, Administration (Administrative units) of the PI.
For the successful proposals, it is expected that the teams will:
- Take part in an inception meeting organized by the Directorate where they will develop their project Theories of Change (ToC) and the year’s budgeted work plan.
- Ensure timely completion of project activities
- Submit quarterly reports (financial & technical) to the Directorate of Research & Innovation
- Present their research findings of the research at the University annual conference
- Publish at least 2 articles in refereed journals
Official application forms to be used and accompanying information documents are available on the below. All applications to be should be submitted in both hard and soft copies to office of the Director of Research & Innovation not later than 16:00 hrs on Thursday 31st January 2019. Soft copy of dully completed application form and scans of accompanying documents should be sent to: email@example.com. Incomplete applications and/or those that reach after the deadline will NOT be considered. Only the successful applicants will be contacted. The list of the successful applicants will be posted on the University website (www.uoeld.ac.ke).
Proposals that received funding in the previous calls should not be resubmitted. Any proposal that is being funded by other donors should not be submitted. Any such proposal will be disqualified.
Only original work should be submitted, plagiarism is highly discouraged and will lead to automatic disqualification.
Successful applicants with research proposals using human participants and/or animals will receive their funding only after ethical approval by an accredited Institutional Ethics Review Committee.
