The University of Eldoret Alumni Association was launched at a colourful ceremony attended by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Teresa Akenga. The Guest of Honour was the Chairman of Council, Dr. David I. Ojakaa who was represented by Mr. Geoffrey Ouma, Council Member and Chair of the Academic, Research, Innovations and Students’ Affairs Committee (ARISAC).
Prof. Akenga in her speech urged the alumni to come together to support the university which was the foundation to their professional and entrepreneurial careers. She highlighted their role and the impact of the Alumni Association in the development of university education. Through the association, they will contribute to the development of key infrastructure and facilities leading to growth of the institution. Apart from this, the association would provide an opportunity to network and re-establish friendships and contacts.
Dr Ojakaa praised the multiple roles that the UoE Alumni played in the society. He noted many are in key positions of major influence and appreciated the efforts they made in the development of our society and justifying the years spent in the University. He mentioned they are the building blocks of our University today as they were among the over 17,000 graduates of UoE who have been awarded post graduate degrees, undergraduate degrees, and postgraduate diplomas.
Elections of the UoEAA were held and by acclamation the office bearers for the association are;
Chairman: Mr. Symon Kirui
Vice-Chair: Dr. Joan Tenge
Secretary: Mr. Ken Onchiri
Organizing Secretary: Mr. Kevin Maru
Treasurer: Mr. Jason Kanule
In his acceptance speech, the Chair, Mr Symon Kirui, appreciated that the task ahead of him was not easy but he would walk with stride to ensure that, with his able team, he would set the foundation for a strong alumni. He donated the seat that would be used by the Chair of UoEAA.
As the way forward, Prof Akenga told the team, an office was ready for their occupation in the Old Library complex. The officials were requested benchmark with other established Alumni Association and would be supported in this endeavor by the University. The officials were asked to work on the Associations’ Constitution with an aim of presenting it to the members by June 2018.

- Ordinary membership (University of Eldoret Graduates): Registration Kshs 500.00 and annual subscription Kshs 1,000.00
- Associate membership (Graduate of other Universities employed by University of Eldoret): Registration Kshs 1,000.00 and annual subscription Kshs 1,000.00
- Affiliate membership (graduates of other Universities with an intrest in University of Eldoret)
- Registration Kshs 1,000.00 and annual subscription Kshs 1,000.00
