The School of Engineering was founded in June 2011 and continues to offer quality engineering training by embracing the culture of hard work, honesty, creativity, innovativeness and lifelong learning. The school offers Agricultural and Bio Systems Engineering, Civil and Structural Engineering and Mechanical and Production Engineering.
At the onset the school of engineering only two programmes; Bachelor of Engineering in Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering and Master of Science in Agricultural and Biosystems in Engineering. The School has grown since that time and currently the School has three undergraduate programmes: B.Eng. (Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering), B.Eng. Civil and Structural Engineering and B.Eng. Mechanical and Production Engineering. Over the years, the school has rolled out progrmames at post graduate level. These are: M.SC. in Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering, MSC. in Sanitation and Sanitary Engineering and PhD in Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering. The school is in the processes of launching MSC. in Mechanical and Production Engineering and B.Eng. in Electrical Engineering.
Our teaching is through physical, on-line and blended to maximize student-lecturer contact hours. Our teaching staff have excellent teaching, research and field experience and are more than able to impart the knowledge and skills for solving societal problems and challenges. It is based on a strong tradition of excellence in applied sciences at the University. All our programmes are designed to solve clientele issues through teaching and research. We emphasize on innovation in line with the Universities motto of Flame of Knowledge and Innovation. The School offers both undergraduate and post-graduate studies and is prepared to meet challenges of increasing student population in line with the government’s Vision 2030 strategy. The School programmes offered are accredited by both the Engineers’ Board of Kenya (EBK) and the Commission for University Education (CUE). The programs are offered through coursework, lab and workshop practice, projects, field and industrial attachments. The general objective is to train would-be practicing engineers with knowledge, skills, management and competence in design using software (AutoCAD, MATLAB, Solid Works, Prokon, ETABS, EPANET, AQUATOX, AQUACROP, Arc GIS etc.), cost estimates, construction, operation and maintenance of engineering systems. Opportunities for graduates include: working in engineering firms, government ministries and agencies, private sector, consultancies, research institutes, among others
