The Makerere University Regional Centre for Crop Improvement (MaRCCI), hosted by the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences (CAES), invites outstanding candidates from Eastern and Southern Africa to apply for a very limited number of partial or full scholarships to pursue an MSc in Plant Breeding and Seed Systems (PBSS) or a PhD in Plant Breeding and Biotechnology (PBB) at Makerere University. MaRCCI is interested in candidates who are hard-working, passionate, academically strong, and eager learners, prepared to contribute to improving crop varieties that will address the issues of hunger and food security in Africa.
The Centre aims to equip African scientists with sound theoretical and practical knowledge, enabled for innovative use of the most current breeding approaches in crop variety development. MaRCCI employs novel curriculum approaches, cutting edge research facilities and a highly-skilled national, regional and international training team.
The MSc PBSS is a two-year programme and the PhD PBB is a four-year programme that MaRCCI will conduct in cooperation with the Department of Agricultural Production. Both programmes require full-time involvement and consist of rigorous coursework and research. Applicants should be prepared to work hard.
