Gender Sensitization Workshop 2018


The Directorate of Gender, Equity and Diversity hosted a Gender Sensitization Workshop on June 8th, 2018 at the Education Complex conference room.

The Ag. Director Dr. Geraldine Matolla opened the workshop on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Teresa Akenga. She outlined the Universities’ commitment to address legal and policy issues in the effort to facilitate the achievement of equality for both genders through the objectives of the directorate which are;

  • Equal representation of both genders in the governance and management of the University
  • Gender mainstreaming in the University policies, academic programs and activities
  • Creation and sustenance of a gender responsive working, living and learning environment
  • Institutional culture that is empowering to both genders

The key speaker for the day was Prof. Catherine Kiprop, Director at the Institute for Gender Equity, Research and Development at Moi University. Her presentations were titled;

  • Gender Mainstreaming: Legal and Policy Mainstreaming Best Practices in the Workplace
  • Gender Based Violence and Sexual Harassment at the Workplace
